Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Silver or Gold registered, ENERGY STAR qualified, and Federal Energy
Management Program designated products will be purchased when available.
Over their lifetime, compared to products that do not meet EPEAT criteria, the 386 EPEAT registered electronics purchased by the Waste Isolation Plant Carlsbad Field Office in 2015 will result in environmental impact reductions including:
Reduce use of primary materials by 5,690 metric tons, more than the weight of 4 elephants
Avoid the disposal of 208 kg of hazardous waste, equal to the weight of 2 refrigerators
Eliminate 155 kg of solid waste
EPEAT’s requirement that registered products meet the latest ENERGY STAR specifications means these products will consume less energy throughout their useful life, resulting in:
Savings of nearly 66,000 kWh of electricity—enough to power 5 U.S. homes for a year
Avoidance of 82 kg of water pollutant emissions
Reduction of 12.3 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions— equivalent to taking 9 average U.S. passenger cars off the road for a year
$4,890 in energy cost savings
