H.11 ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT TOOL If electronic hardware is procured in an individual Order under the Basic Contract, GSA encourages Contractors to participate in and to utilize the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT). EPEAT is a procurement tool designed to help institutional purchasers evaluate, compare, and select desktop computers, laptops, and monitors based upon their environmental attributes as specified in the consensus-based IEEE Standard for the Environmental Assessment of Personal Computer Products (1680). On individual Orders, when products meeting the IEEE Standard are available, additional consideration will be provided for products meeting EPEAT Silver or EPEAT Gold registrationrequirements. The Contractor shall be responsible for ensuring equipment meets the latest EPEAT registration requirements before it is delivered. The registration requirements and a list of all equipment meeting the requirements are provided at: If EPEAT is applicable on an individual Order, suppliers are required to provide quarterly reports quantifying the number of EPEAT registered products purchased under this contract. The information must be reported in the matrix below, providing the following data for the current quarter, the fiscal year, and the duration of the Order. Product Type Unregistered Bronze Silver Gold Total Desktops Laptops Monitors.
Over their lifetime, compared to products that do not meet EPEAT criteria, the 8224 EPEAT registered electronics purchased by U.S. General Services Administration in 2016 will result in environmental impact reductions including:

  • Reduce use of primary materials by 545.4 metric tons, equivalent to the weight of 15 tractor-trailer 18-wheelers
  • Avoid the disposal of 5.9 metric tons of hazardous waste, equal to the weight of 48 refrigerators
  • Eliminate the equivalent of 2 U.S. households’ solid waste for a year—4.1 metric tons
  • Avoidance of 2 metric tons of water pollutant emissions

Energy-Related Savings
EPEAT’s requirement that registered products meet, and often exceed, the latest ENERGY STAR specifications means these products will consume less energy throughout their useful life, resulting in:

  • Savings of 1.4 million kWh of electricity—enough to power 117 U.S. homes for a year
  • Reduction of 276.8 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions— equivalent to taking 199 average U.S. passenger cars off the road for a year
  • $154,100 in lifetime cost savings
