Over their lifetime, compared to products that do not meet EPEAT criteria, the 80,358 EPEAT-registered IT products purchased by the State of California in 2018 will result in environmental impact reductions including:

  • Reduce use of primary materials by 8,886 metric tons, equivalent to the weight of 1,709 elephants
  • Avoid the disposal of 76 metric tons of hazardous waste, equal to the weight of 627 refrigerators
  • Eliminate the equivalent of 211 U.S. households’ solid waste for a year—392 metric tons
  • Avoidance of 55 metric tons of water pollutant emissions

Energy-Related Savings
EPEAT’s requirement that registered products meet, and often exceed, the latest ENERGY STAR specifications means these products will consume less energy throughout their useful life, resulting in:

  • Savings of 30,508 MWh of electricity—enough to power 2,511 U.S. households for a year
  • Greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 17,882 metric tons of CO2 equivalents—equal to taking 3,829 average U.S. passenger cars off the road for a year
  • $3,130,772 in lifetime cost savings

Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool

(EPEAT Silver) Requirements

The minimum requirement for products offered under this contract is EPEAT Silver. This requirement applies to every configuration within all categories except for the Monitor Category. The 30 inch monitors and the 21 inch Touchscreen monitors are excluded from this EPEAT requirement. Products not meeting the minimum requirement of EPEAT Silver will be non-compliant.

The product’s EPEAT level must be verified via the EPEAT database of certified products (https://www.epeat.net/). Energy Star is a requirement of EPEAT. Products should be listed on the Energy Star database, and if they are not, bidder(s) shall submit documentation to support claim for Energy Star compliance. Products indicated by bidder(s) as listed in the Energy Star database will also be verified via the Energy Star database. (www.energystar.com) Verification will be based on database entries posted on the day Final bids are due.

On Exhibit 11.30A-D, Common Configurations, for each configuration offered, bidders must provide the EPEAT certification level and the registration date for certification.

 

Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT Gold) Non-Mandatory

The State prefers products that have achieved the EPEAT Gold level. Therefore, points will be awarded for products that surpass the EPEAT Silver baseline and are certified as EPEAT Gold. Points will only be awarded if the product’s EPEAT level can be verified via the EPEAT database of certified products (https://www.epeat.net/). Verification will be based on database entries posted on the day Final bids are due. For each configuration offered, bidders must provide the EPEAT certification level and the registration date for certification in Exhibit 11.30 A-D, Common Configurations.

The EPEAT system combines strict, comprehensive criteria for design, production, energy use and recycling with ongoing independent verification of manufacturer claims and can be found here:

The State of California has identified EPEAT Bronze as the baseline standard for this solicitation for the following electronic products:

  • Group 1 – Personal Mono Printer
  • Group 1 – Color All-In-One Printer
  • Group 2 – All products
  • Group 3 – All products
  • Group 4 – All products

 

Qualified Printers and MFDs must be listed in the EPEAT Registry located here (https://ww2.epeat.net/searchoptions.aspx) as Bronze at the time of bid submittal.

Televisions must be certified by a minimum of one Third-Party Environmental Certifications listed in the following table and/or meet the minimum Postconsumer Recycled Content (PCRC).
