2019 EPEAT Purchaser Award – 1 Star

2018 EPEAT Purchaser Award – 1 Star

Over their lifetime, compared to products that do not meet EPEAT criteria, the 9,000 EPEAT-registered IT products purchased by Stanford University in 2018 will result in environmental impact reductions including:

  • Reduce use of primary materials by 612 metric tons, equivalent to the weight of 118 elephants
  • Avoid the disposal of 5.8 metric tons of hazardous waste, equal to the weight of 48 refrigerators
  • Eliminate the equivalent of 9 U.S. households’ solid waste for a year—16.4 metric tons
  • Avoidance of 3.6 metric tons of water pollutant emissions

Energy-Related Savings
EPEAT’s requirement that registered products meet, and often exceed, the latest ENERGY STAR specifications means these products will consume less energy throughout their useful life, resulting in:

  • Savings of 2,080 MWh of electricity—enough to power 171 U.S. households for a year
  • Greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 1,278 metric tons of CO2 equivalents—equal to taking 274 average U.S. passenger cars off the road for a year
  • $215,000 in lifetime cost savings
For computer purchases, 100% of recommended computers are rated EPEAT Gold. Procurement includes Energy Star requirements in all RFPs, where available, and offers an exchange program for older printers.
