Desktops must be EPEAT Gold Registered. Notebooks must be EPEAT Silver or higher.

Televisions are not a high volume purchase item and are not on standing offer. However our Sustainable Purchasing Guide for Low Value Purchases recommends purchasing EPEAT registered TVs.

Over their lifetime, compared to products that do not meet EPEAT criteria, the 3,965 EPEAT registered electronics purchased by the Province of Nova Scotia in 2015 will result in environmental impact reductions including:

  • Reduce use of primary materials by 66.9 metric tons, equivalent to the weight of 2 tractor-trailer 18-wheelers
  • Avoid the disposal of 576 kg of hazardous waste, equivalent to the weight of 5 refrigerators
  • Eliminate the equivalent of one U.S. households’ solid waste for three months—428 kg

Energy-Related Savings
EPEAT’s requirement that registered products meet the latest ENERGY STAR specifications means these products will consume less energy throughout their useful life, resulting in:

  • Savings of 182,000 kWh of electricity—enough to power 14 U.S. homes for a year
  • Avoidance of 227 kg of water pollutant emissions
  • Reduction of 34 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions— equivalent to taking 24 average U.S. passenger cars off the road for a year
  • $49,800 in energy cost savings
