Providence Schools purchases EPEAT registered computers and displays

Over their lifetime, compared to products that do not meet EPEAT criteria, the 6,377 EPEAT registered electronics purchased by the City of Providence, Providence Schools in 2016 will result in environmental impact reductions including:

  • Reduce use of primary materials by 421 metric tons, equivalent to the weight of 12 tractor-trailer 18-wheeler
  • Avoid the disposal of 3.5 metric tons of hazardous waste, equal to the weight of 29 refrigerators
  • Eliminate the equivalent of 2 U.S. household’s solid waste for a year—3.9 metric tons
  • Avoidance of 1.4 metric tons of water pollutant emissions

Energy-Related Savings
EPEAT’s requirement that registered products meet, and often exceed, the latest ENERGY STAR specifications means these products will consume less energy throughout their useful life, resulting in:

  • Savings of 1.2 million kWh of electricity—enough to power 90 U.S. homes for a year
  • Reduction of 213 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions— equivalent to taking 153 average U.S. passenger cars off the road for a year
  • $119,000 in lifetime cost savings
