For every sustainability leap the electronics sector makes, it is critical that the market reward those advances while advocating for more. For 10 years the Green Electronics Council has worked at this nexus with manufacturers, purchasers and environmental advocates, helping to connect environmental innovation with a ready marketplace.A more-sustainable world is the ultimate reward, yet some accomplishments deserve special recognition.
The EPEAT Sustainable Purchasing Awards recognize excellence in the green procurement of electronics. Any entity that specifies EPEAT in its procurement policies is eligible for these annual awards, with recognition at increasing levels based upon the number of product categories for which they have a written policy in place that requires EPEAT-registered electronics.
Similarly, the GEC Catalyst Awards honor creative solutions in the greening of electronics with the goal of inspiring continued innovation. The 2016 Catalyst Awards recognized AMD and PuzzlePhone for their “innovations in resource reduction.” The 2015 Catalyst Award honored Dell Inc. for its use of closed-loop plastics to advance the principles of a “circular economy.”
